This Cool iOS 18.1 Feature Is Coming, But Not for Everyone

The iPhone is getting a fantastic new feature with iOS 18.1, but it’s not for everyone. Here’s what’s going on.

Cool iOS 18.1 feature is coming (but not for everyone)

iOS 18 has a lot of cool features that we haven’t seen before on the iPhone. Think of the various improvements that Siri has received and the new options of the Photos app. But there are many more new things coming that are really nice. Still, it’s a shame that the next cool iOS 18.1 feature won’t be available to everyone.

In iOS 18.1, the Clean Up function is added. This allows you to easily remove objects from your photos. There is a requirement for this function, and that is also the big disadvantage. Your iPhone must support Apple Intelligence. Unfortunately, only the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and newer support Apple’s AI. The iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus and older iPhones do not get the function.

The new function can be found in the Photos app. Open a photo and tap the edit button at the bottom (this is the button with the three lines). You will then find the option ‘Clean Up’ on the far right. It is not yet known what the function will be called in Dutch. Funny detail: you have to download the function first.

Once the new iOS 18.1 feature is here, you can use it. When you press the Clean Up button, outline the object you want to remove with your finger. Wait a moment and the object will be gone from your photo. Clean Up will even suggest which objects you can remove. All you have to do then is tap on it to remove it.

Clean Up: Not for Old iPhones (and that’s a shame)

We regret that the feature is only available for iPhones with Apple Intelligence. The app SnapSeed shows that removing objects works fine on older iPhones. We find it a bit lame that Apple only makes such a handy feature available on new iPhones in iOS 18.1.
