Due to the Trump rates, the costs for producing an iPhone are increasing and that irrevocably has an effect on the selling price.
This costs an iPhone 16 Pro for the Trump rates
How much does the Apple cost to make an iPhone 16 Pro and to what extent does that change thanks to the Trump rates? A new Report from The Wall Street Journal Gives the most realistic answer to this. The report uses data from techinsights and iFixit for an overview of the costs for manufacturing an iPhone 16 Pro with 256 GB storage space.
- A18 Pro chip: $ 90.85
- Screen: $ 37.97
- Battery: $ 4.10
- 5G modem: $ 26.62
- Working memory: $ 21.80
- Storage: $ 20.59
- Camera: $ 126.95
- Housing: $ 20.79
- All other parts: $ 200.06
- Testing and assembly: $ 30.27
- Total costs before the Trump rates: $ 580
This does not take into account matters such as research and development, marketing and other non-hardware costs. But even if you take it, there is still a healthy profit margin for Apple, according to The Wall Street Journal.

An iPhone 16 Pro after the Trump rates
At present, Apple is asking $ 1099 in the United States for a 256 GB version of the iPhone 16 Pro. The parts come from all over the world, but the assembly takes place in China. The iPhones are then imported to the United States. Trump has announced a rate of 54 percent on goods from China. Apple pays that percentage on the total costs of the parts, not about the selling price of the iPhone 16 Pro.
When we start from that 54 percent, the costs to make an iPhone 16 Pro with 256 GB of storage space to roughly $ 847. That is a big blow to Apple’s profit margin, especially if you include the other costs mentioned. It is therefore unlikely that Apple will pay the full rate of 54 percent. The company can bear part of the burden, but price increases for consumers seem inevitable.
Nevertheless, assembling iPhones in the United States is not an option. Assembly costs are around $ 30 in China and could go up to $ 300 in the US. So even after the Trump rates it remains cheaper to assemble iPhones in China.

Don’t wait too long
If we assume that the Trump rates do not change, then it is inevitable that buying an iPhone will become more expensive. Exactly how much that will be in the Netherlands will continue to wait. If you need a new iPhone now or in the short term, then it is not a bad idea not to wait too long. In any case, keep an eye on the deals below, so that you are sure that you will not pay too much!
