The Cupra Formentor was already available with a 310 hp petrol engine, but now Cupra is announcing what the Cupra Formentor costs as a plug-in hybrid. That makes a big difference.
Owning a Cupra Formentor has so far been a pricey pleasure in the Netherlands. Cupra’s only unique model is currently only available in the 310 hp strong variant that we already had in a comparison test and then costs at least about 63 grand.
The already announced plug version makes the sporty SUV a lot cheaper, of course. The Cupra Formentor e-Hybrid is available from € 43,990 for the Business version. This is a variant with the 204 hp PHEV powertrain, which sprints from 0 to 100 in 7.8 seconds. The drivetrain, known from the Leon and Volkswagen Golf, is built around a 1.4 TSI and a six-speed DSG automatic transmission. A battery pack of 13 kWh provides a theoretical electric range of 58 kilometers. Other editions include the Adrenaline, Performance and Copper Editions, with each step up pushing the price up by € 2,000.
Veloz
The 245 hp version of the same powertrain is also available. The result is then called Cupra Formentor VZ e-Hybrid and costs considerably more at € 49,990, but also starts at the Performance equipment level. The ‘VZ’ needs exactly 7 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100 and has a top speed of 210 km / h. However, the faster version is just a little less far on power: 54 instead of 58 kilometers. By the way, ‘VZ’ stands for ‘Veloz’ (‘fast’) and we encountered earlier on the most intense version of the Formentor, the 390 hp strong VZ5.
Online
Ordering is done online and Cupra will show the car at home or at work if desired. There is also a Test Drive Center in Leusden and five ‘Cupra Garages’ in the Netherlands, the first of which will open this month at the Stadionplein in Amsterdam. After Spain, Mexico and Germany, the Netherlands is the fourth country in which Cupra will start in this way, the brand reports.
The fact that the Cupra Formentor e-Hybrid with 204 and 245 hp appears is striking, because a different policy is applied to the Seat Leon. The Seat Leon is available as PHEV only with 204 hp, while the Cupra Leon with electric power still always delivers 245 hp.
