The website tom’s guide was also curious and looked into it thoroughly. Apple spent $423 on materials for the iPhone 15. The iPhone 15 Plus costs a bit more: $442. The largest cost items are the Pro models. Apple is paying $523 for the iPhone 15 Pro. The iPhone 15 Pro Max costs Apple $558 to make.
Also interesting: the most expensive parts of the iPhone 15 are the new lens in the Pro Max and the new titanium frame. The A17 Pro chip is also a significant cost item for Apple.
Material costs have increased
Apple’s material costs have also risen this year. The iPhone 15 Pro Max costs 12 percent more to make than the iPhone 14 Pro Max. For the iPhone 15 Pro, this increase is 8 percent compared to the iPhone 14 Pro. The iPhone 15 Plus costs 10 percent more in materials and for the iPhone 15 this is even 16 percent.
iPhone 15 price tag: more than just material
A comment must be made here. Making an iPhone 15 obviously does not only consist of material costs alone. A large part also goes to development. After all, Apple has been working with a large team for years on the production of a new iPhone.
Distribution and other sales costs are also not included. For example, the iPhones have to be transported all over the world and the employees in the Apple Stores naturally also expect their wages. In addition, it costs Apple quite a bit of money to advertise the iPhone 15.
