Anyone who uses Photoshop probably believes that the font determines the look and feel of your project. That’s why you probably want to have more options in choosing the right font. Fortunately, you can add multiple fonts to Photoshop.
While you’ll find many different fonts in Adobe’s app by default, there may be a specific font you prefer but can’t find in Photoshop. You then have two ways to add a font. For example, you can download and install fonts on your computer, but it is also possible to download them via your Creative Cloud account.
The easiest way is simply to download and install fonts on your computer. You don’t have to log in to your Creative Cloud account, it’s free and you can also use the font directly in other programs such as Word or Excel.
The quest
First, find a font that appeals to you. You can use a website like Dafont.com or 1001Fonts for this. If you have already found a nice font, for example in a nice photo or poster, but you do not know which font it is exactly, you can consult What The Font. In another article we explain what other options you have for downloading that one font.
Download font
Once you have found the font, you can download it directly from websites such as Dagront and 1001Fonts. You should then download an .otf or .ttf file. A ttf file has been around for a bit longer, while .otf is a newer file format with usually more basic characters (think more detailed shapes, such as symbols or ligatures). Both file formats are suitable for the average user.
Double click on the .otf or .ttf file and you will see a preview of the font. click on to install and the font will be installed on your computer. All you have to do is search Photoshop for the font you just installed. You will also find the font in other programs such as Word and Excel.
Creative Cloud
If you have a Creative Cloud account, you can also download fonts directly from Adobe. Go to fonts.adobe.com and select a font. On the font overview page, you’ll see an Activate Fonts drop-down menu. Here, toggle the switch behind the font you want to activate. This only works if you are logged in. You can then use the font directly in all Adobe programs.
