This is how you prevent Siri from spontaneously starting to talk (if you don’t want that)

Have you ever had Siri suddenly start talking even though you haven’t asked the voice assistant anything? With this solution you won’t have to worry about that anymore!

This prevents Siri from starting to talk spontaneously

Maybe you recognize it: you are having a nice chat with some friends, and suddenly your iPhone wakes up and Siri spontaneously starts talking. Even though you haven’t asked the voice assistant anything.

It can be quite funny the first few times it happens, but it quickly becomes quite annoying when she bothers you for the umpteenth time. Fortunately, you can do something about it to make it happen less often, without having to turn Siri off completely.

Siri doesn't work

Place screen down

If you place your iPhone with the screen down from now on, Siri will no longer respond to voice commands. It will no longer happen that Siri spontaneously starts talking. You must have an option turned off on your iPhone for this.

To do this, go to ‘Settings > Accessibility’. Then scroll down and choose ‘Siri’. Then turn off the option ‘Always listen to ‘Hey Siri’. Siri will then no longer respond if you turn the iPhone upside down or if the screen is covered.

No more Siri on a locked iPhone

There is another way to (partially) silence Siri. You can turn off the voice assistant when you have locked the iPhone.

You do this by going to ‘Settings’. Then scroll down and choose ‘Siri and search’. Then turn off the function at ‘Allow Siri when locked’. NB! When you turn off this feature, notifications and calls will also be turned off.

Turn off: Siri stops talking completely

Would you rather Siri never start talking again? Then you can also silence the voice assistant completely. To turn off Siri completely, follow the steps below.

Turn off Siri completely on iPhone and iPad

  1. Open ‘Settings’ on your iPhone or iPad;

  2. Scroll down and choose ‘Siri & Search’;

  3. Turn off the option for ‘Listen for ‘Hey Siri’.
