This is the AirTag: smart Apple tracker helps you find things

Apple has officially unveiled the AirTag. You use this little tracker to find lost items. The AirTag is about the size of a bottle cap and fits on your key ring.

AirTag official: you need to know this

The arrival of the AirTag was not a big secret. The new tracker has been popping up frequently for a long time via leaked screenshots, test versions of iOS and rumors. The AirTag, also rumored to be called the Apple Tag, is a small accessory that you can attach to items such as a wallet or key ring.

Are you losing these things? Then you can find them quickly and easily via your iPhone. Ideal for when you often don’t know where you left your things.

If someone else finds your lost items with AirTag, they can report it on an iPhone. The person is then redirected to a website to call the owner. In this way, iPhone users work together to find lost items.

Apple AirTag, the main features:

  • Accessory for retrieving things
  • Works with the Find My app on your iPhone
  • Uses the new Ultra Wideband technique for precise location of items
  • Dust and waterproof, costs only 35 euros

This is how the AirTag works

The AirTag works closely with the Find My app. You are currently already using this iPhone / iPad app to find your iPhone, but you can expand it with other items via the AirTag.

After you attach the Apple tracker to an object, such as your wallet or key ring, it will send out a signal. Your iPhone / iPad receives this signal and you can then find the exact location on the map of the Find My app.

The AirTag is very accurate thanks to the Ultra Wideband technology. This technology is also found in the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 phones, for example. Ultra Wideband is also present on the Apple Watch Series 6, for example. A U1 chip is therefore required to use the AirTag properly.

The AirTag is also dust and waterproof due to the IP67 certification, a feature that we also see on iPhones. This makes the smart device a lot more sustainable. Apple says it is easy to replace the battery and users can personalize the AirTag by engraving an inscription.

Furthermore, users are automatically notified if an unknown AirTag is nearby and does not go away after a while. This prevents Apple from unwanted tracking of people.

AirTag price and release

The AirTag costs in the Netherlands 35 euros and is from next friday (April 23) to order. The release will then take place at 30th of April place. It is also possible to buy a 4-pack, for which you 119 euros pays.
