This is the new Honda Civic Sedan

Honda has a completely new Civic in the development rooms. It is that new generation Honda Civic of which the brand is now releasing the first footage. For the time being, only the new Honda Civic Sedan can count on digital attention, but there is also just a new Civic Hatchback in the pipeline.

The Honda Civic is almost in its eleventh generation. The latest incarnation of Honda, which first appeared on the market in 1972, will make its public debut at the end of this month. To ease the wait – and to get some attention in advance – Honda is releasing a first photo of the new Civic Sedan.

Honda is of course not averse to some praise for its own product and describes the new Civic Sedan as “[…] the most technologically advanced and most fun to drive in the Civic’s 50-year model history. “The first is of course not surprising, the second is interesting. Honda pays relatively much attention in its short cover letter to the sporty character that it is the new Civic. The brand speaks of a sportier appearance, a sporty interior that is simple in design. The current-generation Civic is – if we forget the fierce Type-R – not specifically known for its sporty driving behavior. based on something, the new Civic could well become interesting for fans of relatively dynamic compact middle class cars.

There is more interesting news. At least for the American market. Traditional five-door hatchbacks are becoming increasingly rare in the United States, but the new Civic will be sold there again as a hatchback. For the first time, the Civic Hatchback will soon also be built in the United States. This is undoubtedly related to the closing of the gates of Honda’s factory in Swindon, England, where the Civic Hatchback was also built in large numbers for export markets until recently.

To be fair, the appearance of the new Honda Civic Sedan is of course no longer a surprise to the avid visitor of Techzle.nl. In October last year, we already extensively explained the appearance of the new Civic Hatchback and Civic Sedan, based on surfaced patent drawings (photos 4 to 7). Not much later, Honda already gave an extremely accurate preview of the new Civic Sedan with the Civic Prototype (photos 2 and 3). In terms of design, the new Civic has calmed down. The somewhat busy lines of the outgoing tenth generation make way for a recognizable, but calmed design that is clearly based on that of big brother Accord. There will also be a clearer difference between the Civic Hatchback and Civic Sedan. The current models can only be distinguished from one another from a distance. The new Civic Sedan gets, among other things, a completely different tail light and a sharper kink between the tailgate and the rear window. The Civic Hatchback will soon have to do without a spoiler that divides the rear window in two and connects the rear lights optically. We don’t expect Honda to come back with a coupe version of the new Civic. Although the Civic Coupé has been unknown in Europe for years, Honda in the United States did deliver such a version until recently.

Whether, when and in what forms the new eleventh-generation Honda Civic will soon be available in the Netherlands is not yet known. The fact that the new Civic will again be a very hard Type-R, is already certain. The new Honda Civic Sedan is growing at least a bit compared to the current model. According to information submitted by Honda to the Chinese patent office, the new Civic Sedan is 4.67 meters long and has a wheelbase of 2.74 meters. The distance between the front and rear axle is therefore four centimeters longer than it is now. The Sedan will also be 4 centimeters longer. In Europe, the new Civic will in any case no longer be on the market with a diesel engine.
