There’s a very good chance that all new devices Apple releases from now on will have exceptionally powerful hardware – right down to the ‘budget’ iPhone SE. And there’s a very good reason for that.
New feature requires powerful chip
If you’re waiting for a new iPhone, we have good news. Not only will the new iPhone 16 series be released in two months, but in about half a year there will also be the iPhone SE 2025. According to the latest rumors, the latter seems to be a particularly attractive phone. A lot of technology from the iPhone 16 will be transferred to Apple’s cheapest model. Most likely, there will even be an A18 chip under the hood. That will be Apple’s second fastest phone processor.
The same goes for the future iPads. Here too we dare to iPhoned It is safe to say that even the entry-level version of Apple’s tablet will now at least get the A18 chip. But why? The magic word is called ‘Apple Intelligence’.
Apple Intelligence
Apple Intelligence is a collective name for all kinds of AI functions that will soon be integrated into iOS, iPadOS and macOS. With this you can, among other things, have emojis and images generated, edit and summarize texts or give commands to a smarter Siri. These functions celebrate their introduction in iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia, but they do require powerful hardware. With the iPhone and iPad, only the latest models support Apple Intelligence. Bummer.
But this bad news does have a positive side. Because when Apple Intelligence is released, the company naturally wants to ensure that all new devices will support it. And that means that, for example, an iPhone SE 2025 will definitely have to get the new A18 chip. The same applies to the ‘regular’ iPad that may already be released in September of this year. The current version still has to make do with an A14 chip, but to support Apple Intelligence, it will also have to get an A18.
Just wait a moment
The first version of Apple Intelligence is being rolled out as a beta this year. With a bit of luck, we will be able to use it in Europe, although Apple is still a bit difficult about it at the moment due to the Digital Markets Act. The company says that this means it cannot launch Apple Intelligence in the EU for the time being. iPhoned However, we expect that Apple Intelligence will eventually come to the Netherlands, Belgium and the rest of the EU soon.
But all devices that Apple will launch from September onwards will almost have to have a powerful chip. Otherwise they will not receive support for Apple Intelligence.
