Are you planning to purchase a new charger for your Apple Watch? Then it’s not a bad idea to wait a little longer. Apple Watch chargers are getting much better later this year!

Apple Watch chargers that support fast charging

In 2021, Apple Watch chargers that support fast charging were introduced along with the Apple Watch Series 7. This made it possible to charge your Apple Watch from 0 to 80 percent in about 45 minutes.

As part of Apple’s MFi program (a certification mark for accessories), makers of Apple Watch chargers and accessories are required to use an official Apple charging module. Initially, Apple had a shortage of the newer charging modules, forcing some makers to stick to the older, slower technology.

Apple is going to make fast charging mandatory

At the moment, Apple still offers companies the option of an older charging module with slower speeds or a new module that can charge quickly. Apple has now decided to drastically expand the availability of modules for Apple Watch chargers with support for fast charging. Later this year, the fast charging modules will therefore even become a requirement.

This means Apple is going to stop offering the older, slower charging modules. The deadline for companies to submit their plans to use a slower charging module is set for August 31. Orders for the older module will officially end on September 30.

Apple Watch chargers are getting better

All accessories from after the mentioned dates will therefore be equipped with an Apple Watch charging module that supports fast charging. And this means that in a while all new Apple Watch chargers will be better than most of the versions that are currently in the store.

Fast charging is currently supported by the Apple Watch Series 7, Apple Watch Series 8, and the Apple Watch Ultra.
