WhatsApp has been updated. One of the innovations in the app is that you can ‘lock’ the recording of a voice message, so that you can record longer audio more easily.
Voice messages in WhatsApp
The popular WhatsApp chat app was renewed on Tuesday. At first glance, not much has changed and there is nothing new in the Dutch description. Nevertheless, a function has been added, which will be especially welcome for people who use WhatsApp as a walkie-talkie. With the arrival of version 2.17.81 it is a lot easier to record speech for longer.
Normally when you record a voice message on WhatsApp, you have to press and hold the microphone next to the text bar. If you are not satisfied during the recording, you can always cancel it by swiping to the left. But for longer recordings you had to constantly keep your finger on the screen.
That is no longer necessary. By swiping up from the microphone, a lock appears. Then the recording continues to run while you have your hands free. When you’re done with what you wanted to say, simply tap the send button.
Watch YouTube in chat window
Also new in WhatsApp, according to the English description, is the possibility to watch YouTube videos in the chat. If someone shares a link, the video should be visible in the window. This way you don’t have to leave the app first. Yet that option doesn’t seem to work for everyone yet. WhatsApp may still be in the process of rolling out the function more widely.

WhatsApp on iPad
WhatsApp regularly adds new features to its app. In addition, work would also be done on a version of WhatsApp for the iPad. Until now, the chat app is missing on Apple’s tablet, but clues have been found in the icons of the desktop version. Read more about the possible iPad version of WhatsApp here.
