Apple has removed a popular feature from the iPad, but fortunately it will be brought back soon. This is what this feature is all about!
Popular feature of the iPad
Another update is coming for the iPad! Apple is preparing the release of iPadOS 26.1, which will be the first major software version after iPadOS 26. The operating system for the iPad has changed enormously this year, because the tablet has adopted many functions from the Mac. Multitasking has therefore been completely different since iPadOS 26, because for the first time on the iPad you can open multiple applications side by side.
You decide where you place these apps on the Home screen of the iPad. This way you can place them anywhere, or divide the Home screen into different sections. Unfortunately, Apple also said goodbye to a popular feature with iPadOS 26, Slide Over is no longer available on the iPad. Do you think that’s a shame? Then we have good news, because Apple will soon bring the feature back to the tablet.

Slide Over returns
With Slide Over it is possible to show a certain program over another application. This way you can use one program in the foreground, while running another application in the background. Slide Over was a popular feature on the iPad, but disappeared in iPadOS 26. From iPadOS 26.1 you can use the feature again. Curious how that works? Here you will find Slide Over:
- Open an application of your choice on the iPad;
- Briefly swipe down across the top of the screen;
- Tap the traffic light in the left corner;
- Press and hold the green ball;
- Finally, select ‘Open Slide Over’.
Did you choose Slide Over? The application is then brought to the foreground, so that you can select a program in the background. With Slide Over you determine the size of the window, which you can enlarge or reduce by swiping over one of the corners. This popular feature makes it easier to multitask on the iPad. Starting with iPadOS 26.1, it is possible to open one window at a time with Slide Over.

More about iPadOS 26.1
Slide Over is especially useful if you are working in multiple programs at the same time, but want to use one of them continuously on the front edge. In the iPadOS 26 view, you can open applications side by side, but the program in the foreground changes continuously. That depends on the application you use, while with Slide Over the same program remains visible in the foreground all the time.
Did you miss Slide Over? Then you won’t have to wait much longer, because the popular function will return to the iPad this month. The first test versions of iPadOS 26.1 have now been released, the final update will probably appear in the last week of October. Don’t want to miss any updates for the iPad?
