With iOS 17, a very useful feature comes to your iPhone, so you never have to delete your verification messages again. This is how the new feature works!
iOS 17 is coming soon
Apple has now officially unveiled iOS 17 and a number of useful functions are coming to your iPhone. For example, the completely new Standby mode is introduced and the Journal app comes to your phone. Apps such as Phone, FaceTime and Messages are also being overhauled in iOS 17. In addition, Apple has not yet mentioned many features, so they have remained hidden.
One of those features is the automatic removal of verification codes. For many, it was already one of the best iPhone features ever: auto-filling verification codes. Your iPhone automatically recognizes a verification code that comes in through Messages and then enters the code for you on the corresponding website or page. In iOS 17, this feature will be even more extensive.
Received verification codes via email
In iOS 17, there will be another option, because your iPhone will also recognize verification codes that come in via email. You no longer have to remember or search for the code. As soon as you have received the verification code in your email, your iPhone will automatically give you the option to enter the code in Safari. You get this option automatically, so you don’t have to do anything else.
Also new in iOS 17: you can set messages and emails with a verification code to be deleted after you have used the code. This happens automatically, so you don’t have to look at those messages anymore. Very handy of course, because you won’t need those emails and messages after that. Verification codes are only valid for a limited time for security reasons, after that you need a new one.
Automatically delete verification messages
When you have installed iOS 17 on your iPhone, you can set verification messages to be deleted automatically. When you enter a verification code in Safari for the first time, iOS 17 immediately prompts you to set up the new feature. You do this by tapping ‘Delete after use’ at the notification.
Of course you can also set the automatic removal of verification codes manually. It goes like this:
- Go to your iPhone’s settings;
- Tap on ‘Passwords’ and unlock the menu;
- Choose ‘Password options’;
- Turn on the switch next to “Clean up automatically”.
