This way you can make blurry Live Photos sharp again with Motion Stills

Google seems to have made a sport of making better use of the Live Photos feature than Apple itself. With this Motion Stills update you now choose on which frame the animation starts.

Make Motion Stills Live Photo sharp again

If you have an iPhone 6S or iPhone 7, Motion Stills should not be missing on your iPhone. The Google app takes advantage of the animated Live Photos, but at the same time gives you many more options than Apple does itself. Version 1.4.0 again gives you more options to adjust a Live Photo. For example, text that you put on photos (read here how) is displayed better and the quality of the gifs that you make with Motion Stills has noticeably improved.

The most interesting feature of the update, however, is that you can now choose the frame on which you start the Live Photo. An important detail that Apple has overlooked, because this first frame determines how your photo looks. So if you have a blurred photo, you can often correct this by choosing a new starting frame in Motion Stills that is sharp.

This way you can make blurry Live Photos sharp again with Motion Stills

This is how you make a blurry live photo sharp again:

  1. Open Motion Stills and choose a photo you want to edit;
  2. Edit your Live Photo and tap the arrow;
  3. Choose ‘Export Live Photo’;
  4. Use the slider to indicate on which frame you want the photo to start;
  5. The modified Live Photo is now saved in your Camera Roll.

Motion Stills also has many more options. For example, you can loop a Live Photo or turn off the sound. Afterwards you have the choice to export your creation as a Live Photo, gif or video. The latter two are especially useful, in case you want to send a Live Photo to an Android user.
