This way you can set up your AirPods (2019) and update to iOS 12.2

If you bought brand new AirPods, you naturally want to use the wireless earbuds as soon as possible. In this tip, we explain how to set up the AirPods (2019) and ensure that your iPhone is running on the correct iOS version.

This is how you set up your new AirPods

Apple has officially unveiled the long-awaited second generation of AirPods. These AirPods (2019) have no major differences from the original wireless earbuds, but a number of nice improvements. If you have obtained the AirPods (2019), you can set them up as follows.

Update your devices to iOS 12.2

The AirPods (2019) were released roughly at the same time as the iOS 12.2 update, and are therefore only supported by this or a later version of iOS. To set up the earbuds, it is therefore important to first update your iPhone and / or iPad to iOS 12.2. If it runs on an older software version, your device does not support the new AirPods.

You can wait for your iOS device to propose itself to install the update, but you can also speed up this process yourself. It is wise to make a backup of your iPhone first.

  1. Open the Settings app;
  2. Tap on ‘General’;
  3. Go to ‘Software update’;
  4. Wait for the update to be found and follow the steps on the screen.
