The Apple AirPods regularly receive updates with new functions. But there is now a way to always get the updates as one of the first.
This way you get the latest functions the fastest to your AirPods
In addition to iOS 26 for your iPhone, the AirPods Pro 2 and the AirPods 4 will also receive new functions. The new functions that (soon) come to your AirPods are:
- Remote control for the camera app: allows you to use the stalk of the AirPods as a remote control for the camera app on your iPhone;
- Make improved audio recordings;
- Sleep detection: Your AirPods break the music when you fall asleep;
- Support for CarPlay: The AirPods can automatically connect to CarPlay.

For the functions you need iOS 26, but the public beta can now be installed by everyone. Do you have iOS 26 running on your iPhone? Then you can now also easily install the beta of the new AirPods software. That first went in a very cumbersome way. You needed one Mac for that and had to jump through quite a few hoops to get it installed.
Fortunately, Apple has done something about that now and it is easier than ever to get the latest functions to your AirPods the fastest. You only have to turn on a function in the settings of your AirPods.
This way you can now install the beta software with new functions on the AirPods
- Connect your AirPods with your iPhone;
- Go to ‘Settings’ and tap your AirPods;
- Then tap ‘Beta updates for AirPods’ and put the switch behind ‘Beta updates for AirPods’;
- The latest AirPods software will then be installed automatically.
To be sure that your AirPods are updated as quickly as possible, it is best to update the article ‘Your AirPods is best in this way (according to Apple)’.
