The batteries or – in the case of the Magic Mouse 2 – battery in the mouse of your Mac usually last a long time. However, if you forget to turn it off, it can go a lot faster. When your batteries are empty, use the numeric keys on your keyboard to control the mouse.

Activate Mouse Keys

The condition for this tip is that you have access to a wired Apple Keyboard with numeric part. To control the mouse with the numeric keys, go to ‘System Preferences> Accessibility> Mouse & TrackPad’ and check ‘Enable Mouse Keys’. Via ‘Options’ you can determine how quickly the keys respond. Not an unnecessary luxury, because the default settings are quite slow.

But what if your mouse is completely empty and you are unable to click through to the Accessibility Options? Then hit cmd + space to open Spotlight and tap ‘System Preferences’. The cursor is then automatically located in the search window, so that by typing ‘Mouse Keys’ you can easily go to the correct screen. By pressing Tab twice you go to the box ‘Activate mouse keys’, which you can select with a space. Now you can operate the mouse arrow with the numeric keys. Handy for emergencies!
