With iOS 17.2, your iPhone is finally protected against Bluetooth attacks, which could already be carried out with simple gadgets. That is how it works.
iPhone vulnerable to attacks
Apple has released iOS 17.2, with several new features for your iPhone. As always, there are also bug fixes in the new update, including a very important one. With iOS 17.2, your iPhone is finally protected against Bluetooth attacks. It’s about time, because these types of attacks can be carried out with simple devices and make your iPhone (temporarily) unusable.

That’s how Bol sold. earlier this year the Flipper Zero. With this device you can send out a huge number of signals in a short time, disrupting iPhones in the vicinity of the gadget. Very annoying of course, because it is easy for everyone to purchase such a device. Fortunately, with the new update, your iPhone is no longer susceptible to these types of Bluetooth attacks.
This is how Bluetooth signals work
With certain gadgets it is possible to carry out a Bluetooth attack on an iPhone. In that case, a high number of Bluetooth signals are sent in a short time. This will cause multiple notifications to appear on your iPhone to connect to Bluetooth. There are so many of them that your iPhone becomes unusable. The messages continue to appear on the screen continuously.
As a result, no other tasks can be performed on the iPhone. You can only use your phone again when you are outside a certain distance from the device, so that you no longer receive notifications. With such a Bluetooth attack, your data is not at risk and no malicious software gets onto your iPhone, but it is of course still annoying.
Updating to iOS 17.2 is the solution
It has been known for some time that iOS was vulnerable to these types of attacks, but with iOS 17.2, Apple has finally come up with a solution. By updating to iOS 17.2, your iPhone is immediately protected against such Bluetooth attacks. You don’t have to adjust any settings for this. The update was released last week and can now be installed by everyone. Read everything about iOS 17.2 here.

Do you have an older iPhone that no longer supports iOS 17? Then your iPhone remains vulnerable to Bluetooth attacks. In that case, the device is only safe for gadgets like the Flipper Zero when Bluetooth is turned off. Unfortunately, this has a number of disadvantages, for example your Apple Watch is no longer connected to your iPhone without Bluetooth. It is therefore hoped that Apple will soon also come up with a solution for older devices.
