This will be the first Apple product you can buy in 2025

Apple will launch a number of new devices this spring, but the first Apple product of 2025 will arrive even a little earlier.

The first Apple product of 2025

2025 is less than a month old, so it’s not surprising that no new Apple product has hit the market yet. However, that won’t take much longer. There’s a good chance that Apple’s first product announcement of 2025 will be new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models with the M4 chip. And we expect that within about a month.

Apple released macOS Sequoia 15.2 last month, accidentally confirming that new MacBook Air models are coming, which isn’t a surprise. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, the new MacBook Air models are announced earlier than other devices that will be released this spring (including iPhone SE 4 and iPad 11). Gurman also says that the MacBook Air models are already in production, so a February release instead of March or April seems possible.

This is what the rumors say

Thanks to these rumors, we know approximately what to expect from the first Apple product of 2025.

Faster chip and more memory

The new MacBook Air models will likely get the M4 chip that has a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU. Apple already equipped the MacBook Pro, iMac and Mac mini with M4 chips at the end of October. Results from Geekbench 6 showed that the M4 chip is up to 25 percent faster than the M3 chip in multi-core CPU performance. Apple recently increased the minimum RAM in all MacBook Air models from 8 GB to 16 GB.

Better camera with Center Stage and Desk View

The next MacBook Air models are likely to get an improved 12-megapixel camera with support for Center Stage, a feature that automatically keeps you in the middle of the video as you move. The camera is also said to support Desk View, which shows you as well as an overhead view of your desk.

Center Stage is available in video calling apps like FaceTime and Zoom. The feature was previously limited to newer iPad models and Macs connected to Apple’s external Studio Display. The new MacBook Pro and iMac models are the first Macs to support Center Stage without relying on a Studio Display.

Three Thunderbolt 4 ports

The first Apple product of 2025 will likely be equipped with three Thunderbolt 4 ports. Current MacBook Air models have two Thunderbolt 3 ports. The new models are also likely to support two external displays.

Nano-textured glass screen

The latest MacBook Pro and iMac models can be configured with a nano-textured glass screen. Such a screen has a special coating that scatters light better to minimize glare on the screen. It is possible that Apple will extend this option to the new MacBook Air models, but it could also be that Apple chooses to keep the option exclusive to the MacBook Pro to differentiate itself.

There are no other major design changes known for the new MacBook Air models. Apple last updated the design of the MacBook Air in 2022.
