Tip: Add favorite emoji on Mac

You may know that you can open an emoji window on the Mac, but did you know that you can also compose favorite emoji in that window? In this article you can read how.

Favorite emoji on the Mac

Emoji do not only exist on iOS, but also on the Mac. Via the key combination ‘ctrl + cmd + space’ you open the emoji window. With this you can navigate to your favorite categories and frequently used smileys will be placed under the heading ‘often used’. But maybe you have favorite pictures that you like to use less often. To make sure you don’t have to search for them over and over again, you can add them to your favorites.

You can add emoji to your favorites via almost any text box on the Mac, as long as the app in question supports emoji. Use the step-by-step plan below to set up favorites.

  1. Open the emoji window with ‘control + command + space’;
  2. Click on the button next to the search bar;
  3. Select your choice in the new window and then press ‘add to favorites’ on the right of the screen;
  4. Check on the left side of the window if it is among your favorites.

If you open the emoji window in the future, you will find the emoji under the heading ‘often used’ in the favorites. You can quickly add them to messages or posts through that section. They will stay here forever, until you decide you don’t want the emoji as a favorite anymore.

Remove emoji

If you are tired of an emoji as a favorite, you can of course also remove it. You do this via the following steps.

  1. Open the emoji window and click the icon next to the search field again;
  2. Select the image you want to delete;
  3. Click on ‘remove from favorites’.

Adding smileys to favorites will help you find the right emoji much faster. Otherwise you are dependent on frequently used, but pictures rotate often, or you have to scroll through the list. It will be useful for emoji frequent users.
