Tip: How to change your Google Meet background

Want to meet from home without clutter in the background, or pretend you’re on a tropical island? It is very easy to blur or change your Google Meet background. That is how it works.

Teams, Zoom or Google Meet: most of us have already become acquainted with a video calling app. In Teams and Zoom, it has been possible to change your background for a long time, and Google Meet has now also joined this group. This is how you change your background in Google Meet in your browser.

  1. First of all, participate in a meeting;

  2. Click on the three dots at the bottom right of the screen;

  3. Select ‘Change background’.

    Here you can choose a default background or blur your ‘real’ background.

Do you want your own image as a background? Then click on the plus sign to choose an image from your files. It is also possible to change your background before joining a meeting. Then click on the Background icon at the bottom right of the camera image.

Are you video calling via the Meet app on your iPhone or iPad? Then it is unfortunately not possible to choose your own image as background. You can, however, blur your background.

To do so, tap the screen during a meeting to open your self view. Then tap Blur your background to turn the blur on or off. Please note: if you have turned on blur, it will demand extra from your battery.
