Google Photos Apple TV update adds streaming

Google Photos has always been a great alternative to the default Photos app on your iPhone. All that was missing was a simple way to wirelessly stream photos to an Apple TV, as Chromecast support has been around for some time. This will change with version 2.14, now that Google is also embracing AirPlay.

Before you go through the steps below, it is smart to check which version of Google Photos you are using. The Apple TV is only supported from 2.14 or higher. Interestingly enough, Google has not added an AirPlay button.

Tip: Stream Google Photos to the Apple TV in 3 steps

Stream Google Photos Apple TV in 3 steps:

  1. Open Google Photos and choose a photo you want to show on TV;
  2. Open the control panel by swiping the screen from the bottom to the top;
  3. Tap AirPlay Display and choose Apple TV.

The picture should now appear on your television. You can then browse your entire Google Photos library by swiping the screen. To keep it organized for yourself, you can, for example, create an album with all your holiday photos.
