Tip: This is how iOS 13 dark mode works

The long-awaited dark mode of iOS 13 is not only better for your eyes, but your battery life is also longer. This is how you turn on dark mode on your iPhone and iPad.

Activate iOS 13 Dark Mode on iPhone and iPad

By turning on dark mode, the operating system gets a different touch. Menus, settings and many apps are no longer white, but dark. Not only is this better for your eyes, it also extends your battery life. Activating dark mode can be done in two ways.

Here’s how to turn on iOS 13’s dark mode:

  1. Open the Settings app and tap ‘Display & Brightness’;
  2. At Display, choose ‘Dark’, the second option, and you’re done.

You can also enable dark mode in a faster way. To do this, open the Control Center on your iPhone or iPad and hold your finger on the bar to adjust the brightness of your screen. Then tap ‘Display’ to quickly switch from light to dark mode, possibly back again.

Tip: The dark mode of iOS 13 really comes into its own when you are not using a light wallpaper. Go to the settings, tap ‘Wallpapers’ and select a dark background.

Turn on dark mode automatically

Do you want dark mode to automatically activate as soon as the sun goes down? Then slide the switch at ‘Automatic’ in the settings menu of your iPhone or iPad so that the box turns blue. This allows the mode to take sunrise and sunset into account. So in the morning the screen is bright, while the dark mode is switched on in the evening.

You can also opt for an adjusted schedule. This option appears immediately when you have moved the switch at automatic. This allows you, for example, to set the dark mode to be active from 17:00 in the afternoon, because you prefer that.
