Is your watch going to change hands? Then you have to disconnect it from your iPhone. In this article, we’ll show you how to unpair an Apple Watch.
Disconnecting the Apple Watch: this is how you do it
Unlinking your watch ensures that all factory settings are restored. The new owner can immediately start using the Apple Watch. How to disconnect an Apple Watch:
- Make sure your Apple Watch and iPhone are close together;
- Open the Watch app on the iPhone;
- In the ‘My Watch’ tab, tap the watch you want to remove at the top;
- Press the info sign (i) next to the Watch;
- Select ‘Unpair Apple Watch’ and confirm your choice.
All your personal settings will now be deleted. In order not to lose data, it is important to backup the Apple Watch beforehand. You can restore this backup version at a later time, for example when you start using a new Apple Watch.

iPhone not present?
Do you not have your iPhone at hand, but do you want to completely empty your Apple Watch? Grab your watch and go to Settings. Tap General and choose Reset. Then select ‘Erase all content and settings’ and confirm your order. Your Apple Watch will now be reset to factory settings.
