Google has released an update to its Chrome browser that lets you export your saved passwords. In this article, we’ll show you how.
Export Chrome passwords
Version 66 of Google Chrome has been released today for both the Mac and the iPhone. In this version, videos and other noisy content no longer play automatically which can save a lot of irritation. But the built-in password manager has also been given a new function.
Since the update to version 66 you can easily export your passwords to a separate file. This is especially useful if you want to use a different password manager that has more options than Chrome offers by default. In addition, using password apps is usually safer than saving in the browser.

To export your passwords on your iPhone, follow the corresponding step-by-step plan that you can find below. Please note: the CSV file that you export from Chrome is easy to read. So handle this with care and delete the file when you’re done.
Export Chrome Passwords on iPhone
- Open the Chrome app and tap the three dots at the top right;
- Select ‘Settings’ and go to ‘Passwords’;
- Tap the ‘Export passwords’ button and choose the app you want to send your file with;
- Import the file into your other password manager;
- Delete the CSV file with your data.
Export Chrome passwords on the Mac
Exporting your passwords from your Mac is much the same. To do this, follow the steps described below. Again, you should be careful with the CSV file with your passwords.
- Open Chrome, click on the three dots at the top right and go to ‘Settings’;
- Click on the three bars in the left sidebar and go to ‘Advanced’;
- Open ‘Passwords and forms’ and click on ‘Manage passwords’;
- Click on the three dots next to ‘Saved passwords’ and go to ‘Export passwords’;
- Save the file from step four to your new password app and delete the file when you’re done.
