Tip: This is how you tilt horizontal videos for IGTV

Apps like IGTV and Snapchat play videos vertically. As a result, horizontally recorded videos do not look good. We explain how to tilt these videos using your iPhone.

Tilting IGTV video: this is how you do it

With IGTV, Instagram is competing with YouTube. The new platform is meant for longer videos, because sometimes you can’t cram everything you want to share with friends into a short movie. IGTV plays videos vertically, which is sometimes a problem.

A lot of footage is recorded horizontally, because you use the maximum dimensions of your iPhone screen. Fortunately, there is an easy solution for this. All you need is iMovie, which is free to download from the App Store.

Here’s how to flip horizontal videos to vertical for IGTV:

  1. Open the iMovie app, go to the Video tab and select the horizontally shot video you want to flip;
  2. Tap ‘Share’ and create a new movie project;
  3. Make a rotating movement on the display window by rotating your finger and thumb to the left or right, as shown in the photo below;
  4. The video will now be flipped 90 degrees. You can rotate until you are done;
  5. Save the now vertical video and upload it to IGTV.

Make something beautiful out of it

While you’re in iMovie, it’s fun editing the video. You can crop the video, add filters or change the playback speed. Since IGTV is fresh off the press, all possibilities are still open and nobody knows what ‘scores’.
