Snapchat’s new feature is called Snap Map. On a world map you can see where your friends are and they can see where you are. This creates the necessary resistance from users online. This is how you turn the function off.
Share location on Snapchat with Snap Map
Snap Map was added to the latest version of Snapchat. After the installation of the update, you will be guided through the possibilities of the card. Then you choose which of your friends can see where you are (all friends, some friends or just yourself). With the latter option, others cannot see your location, but if you have chosen another option, you can still choose to disable the option.
Disable the feature
To disable Snap Map, complete the following steps in Snapchat:
- Swipe down from the camera screen;
- Tap the gear at the top right of the screen to open the settings;
- Scroll down and choose ‘Show my location’;
- Select ‘Invisible mode’.
Now that you have enabled this option, friends will no longer be able to see where you are on the map. Snapchat introduced the Snap Map to make snaps of users location-bound and to see where friends hang out. On the map they are indicated with cartoon figures at the exact place where they are. On the other hand, the map shows colored spots and events that you can tap to view the stories that have been created there.
Doubts about privacy
However, there has been some noise on the internet about the function. This is mainly about privacy. For example, it is not clear to everyone that the location is shared every time Snapchat is opened. This makes it very simple to track down people who may not want this. Because Snapchat is especially popular among teenagers, people question that.
A spokesperson for Snapchat says against The Verge that security is extremely important and that the company is committed to providing users with the correct information about Snap Map. According to Snapchat, only mutual friends can see each other’s location and after a ‘short while’ the precise location is deleted. By tapping on a friend, you can see when they last opened the app somewhere. After eight hours their figures disappear from the map.
