Too bad: this car brand will not switch to CarPlay 2.0 for the time being

According to Apple, CarPlay 2.0 will arrive this year, but one car brand has announced that it will not switch for the time being. This is what this car brand is all about!

CarPlay 2.0

It has long been known that Apple is working on a new generation of CarPlay. The company announced CarPlay 2.0 during the WWDC in 2022. With the new version, the operating system takes over many more functions and screens of the car. Several car brands have already announced that they are working on support for CarPlay 2.0.

A number of car brands have even shown what the new version of CarPlay looks like in certain cars. These include Aston Martin and Porsche, which gives us an idea of CarPlay 2.0 with these brands. It has been more than a year since these images were shown, but little progress has reportedly been made since then. Porsche has indicated that it will not switch to CarPlay 2.0 for the time being.

Porsche has no plans (yet).

A Porsche spokesperson has announced that the company will stick to the current generation of CarPlay for the foreseeable future. According to the spokesperson, the car brand has no plans to switch to CarPlay 2.0 in the short term. This may have to do with the advanced CarPlay functions that Porsche already has. For example, cars like the Taycan already support EV routes in Apple Maps.

Porsche will therefore not be releasing cars that work with CarPlay 2.0 for the time being. That is not very strange, because Apple has not yet released the new generation of the operating system. The website has stated (for a year now) that CarPlay 2.0 will be released for the first car brands in 2024. The year is almost over, so that means Apple still has about a month to release the new version of CarPlay.

CarPlay 2.0 release unclear

It is still unclear whether Apple will indeed officially release CarPlay 2.0 within a month. The release of the operating system may be postponed to 2025, especially now that no cars yet support the next generation of CarPlay. In any case, there are plenty of car brands that have already announced that they support CarPlay 2.0, see here which ones they are exactly.

Various functions of these car brands are better integrated into CarPlay 2.0. For example, you can control the air conditioning, radio and heating via the operating system. This is not yet possible, instead you have to use the physical buttons in the car. In addition, almost all screens of the car are taken over with CarPlay 2.0.
