Toyota Corolla again best-selling car in the world

The Toyota Corolla is once again the best-selling car in the world. In fact, in 2020 it was the only model to sell more than 1 million units. In second place is another Toyota; the RAV4.

The Toyota Corolla has been the most sold car ever for years. 2020 will also make a difference in that regard, because again it is the Corolla for which the most purchase contracts were signed worldwide. This is evident from figures from Focus2Move. Although sales fell by as much as 8.8 percent compared to 2019, partly due to the corona crisis, the Corolla was the only model to leave the showroom more than a million times last year. In second place is also a Toyota, namely the RAV4. Of these, 1.9 percent more were sold than in 2019, so that the total came to 971,516 copies. Of course, these figures focus on ‘normal’ passenger cars, otherwise we would encounter the Ford F-150 in second place.

In third place we find the Honda CR-V with 705,651 units sold (a decrease of 13.2 percent), followed by the Honda Civic with 697,945 units (-16.3 percent) and the Volkswagen Tiguan with 607,121 cars (-18, 8 percent). Sixth is the Toyota Camry, seventh the Nissan Sylphy and eighth the Volkswagen Golf. The Golf is the biggest drop in the list with a sales decline of almost 29 percent. Places nine and ten are for the Volkswagen Lavida and the Hyundai Tucson.

Toyota also remains the world’s largest car brand with a total of 7.86 million cars sold in 2020. The Japanese company is even further ahead of the number two, Volkswagen, which remains at 5.73 million vehicles. Ford finished third with 4.18 million cars sold, followed by Honda with 3.97 million units and Hyundai with 3.71 million units sold. The top 10 is completed by Nissan, Chevrolet, Kia, Mercedes and BMW.
