Toyota has made a record attempt with the Mirai in France. With success, because the brand drove the longest distance ever driven with a hydrogen car on one tank.
Toyota normally gives a range of around 650 kilometers for the new Mirai, but if you really want to ‘hypermilen’, you can apparently pull out quite a bit more range. This became apparent during a record attempt in France. Early last Wednesday morning the Mirai left Orly, just below Paris, from where it continued on the local roads around Paris. Four men took turns and eventually they reached 1,003 km. Average consumption was 0.55 kilos per 100 kilometers. With more than 1,000 kilometers driven, the Mirai has set a new record for hydrogen cars, verified by an independent authority, according to Toyota.
Toyota claims that the drivers have of course used the most economical driving style, but that no other special things have been done with the car. The manufacturer believes that anyone with a Mirai could have done it in principle. Interesting detail: when the attempt was over, the Mirai indicated on the on-board computer a further 9 kilometers of driving range. The goal was to break the 1,000 km barrier, but there may have been a little more to it.
