Troubleshoot your second monitor in Windows 11


Connecting a second monitor to your PC is not complicated, but it can happen that the extra screen is not recognized. How do you solve this problem in Windows 11?

There are of course some standard steps you can take if hardware is not working properly. In the case of a monitor, you can check whether the plug is properly inserted. You can also restart your PC, in the hope that your screen will then be recognized.

Update driver

If the display is still not recognized, you can use the Device Manager menu. The fastest way to get to this menu is to search for . via the start button or the magnifying glass in the taskbar Device Manager. In this window click on Display adapters and right-click on the appropriate adapter on your screen. In the menu that appears, choose Update driver to update the display adapter. by on Automatic Driver Search clicking, Windows 11 will search for updates. If there are, they will be downloaded and installed automatically. Then you have to restart your PC.

Doesn’t this work? It is always possible to restore the previous version of the driver by right-clicking the display driver and pressing Characteristics. Under the tab Driver do you think Previous Driver, to restore the previously installed driver.

You can update the drivers for your monitor in the Device Manager.

Undo installation

You can also try completely uninstalling your monitor by right-clicking your monitor’s adapter again. Choose here Remove device. Then put a check next to Attempt to uninstall the driver for this device and click Undo installation. Then restart your computer and go to Device Manager again. Now right-click on the name of your PC at the very top of the window and choose Search for changed devices. From the window that appears, you can have Windows 11 reinstall the correct drivers.
