In watchOS 9, the Apple Watch has received a cool new function. With this you can use the battery of your smartwatch twice as long. But how do you turn on this Power Saving Mode on your Apple Watch? And which functions no longer work? iPhoned tells you exactly what you need to know!
Turn on Apple Watch Power Saving Mode
With watchOS 9, not only does the latest Apple Watch Series 8 get a new function, because Apple has also provided the old guard with a nice update. For example, Power Saving Mode (which used to be “power saving”) is available from the Apple Watch Series 4.
The cool thing about this function is that you can do twice as long with one battery charge of your Apple Watch. You enable the function in the following way.
Turn on power saving mode on Apple Watch
- When you see the face of your Apple Watch, swipe up from the bottom of the screen;
- Tap the percentage of your battery;
- Turn on the slider at ‘Energy saving mode’;
- Scroll down and choose ‘Enable’.
You will now see a yellow circle at the top of your Apple Watch screen. That means Power Saving Mode on your Apple Watch is now enabled. To turn the function off again, swipe up from the bottom of the screen again. Tap the percentage and turn off the slider at ‘Energy saving mode’.
These features are disabled (or restricted) in Power Saving Mode
Turning on Energy Saving Mode on your Apple Watch will lose some features. Your Apple Watch does this to get the most out of the battery charge. These are the features you will miss. Not every Apple Watch will miss every feature as some features are simply not available.
- Always-on screen is off;
- Notifications can arrive later on your Apple Watch;
- Background heart rate measurements are disabled;
- Notifications about heart rate problems are off;
- Saturation notifications are turned off;
- Workout reminder is off;
- Wifi and cellular are turned off when your iPhone is not nearby;
- Calling may take longer;
- Apps are refreshed less often in the background;
- Complications update less often;
- Siri is less likely to answer your question;
- Some animations are less fluid.
So you see that when you turn on the Energy Saving Mode, you lose quite a lot of functions of your Apple Watch. However, most are not really necessary and the extra battery life that you get can be really useful.
