iOS 18 is out, but not all promised features are available once you install the update. You’ll have to be patient for that.

These features are not available in iOS 18

If you’ve already installed iOS 18 on your iPhone, you may have noticed that not all of the features that were announced in advance are actually available. Those features are still coming, but it’s not always clear when. Here are the features we’re expecting at a later date.

1. Apple Intelligence

Apple Intelligence is the main thing that is currently missing from iOS 18. This is due to Apple’s problems with the EU’s competition law DMA. Apple is currently negotiating with the EU in the hope of releasing Apple Intelligence in the Netherlands at a later date. You can expect the following features:

Writing Tools

The function Writing Tools can be used everywhere, both in Apple apps and in third-party apps. The tool makes it possible to improve, rewrite, check and summarize self-written texts. In addition, you can adjust the tone of the text to friendly or professional. For this, ChatGPT deployed.

Image Playground

You can use the AI ​​tool Image Playground compose images more easily. This is possible in several apps, including Notes and Messages. In the latter, you can create images based on your own profile picture or the photo of your contact. ChatGPT is also used for this function.

Genmoji

Of Genmoji is it possible to create your own emojis. This way you can combine different images to create one emoji. Do you want to create a more personal image? Then it is also possible to create an emoji of yourself, a friend or a pet with Apple Intelligence. Unfortunately, Genmoji is not yet available in iOS 18.

Clean Up

The Photos app is being expanded with Clean Upa tool that makes it easy to remove tourists from your vacation photos. Simply circle them and they will be automatically removed. In addition, the Photo Library makes storytelling a lot easier, as you can simply type a description into the search bar. AI will then choose the best photos and videos based on your description.

Siri with AI

Siri is also getting a big change. Apple is adding new language models, which makes Siri sound much more fluent and natural. Siri will also work with ChatGPT and the Shortcuts app. Siri will then have access to all apps and can perform multiple tasks in a row, which you can say in one command. For example, Siri can convert a photo to another file and then send it to a contact.

Visual Intelligence

With the function Visual Intelligence take a picture of something and you will automatically receive all kinds of information about it. It is the fastest way to find more information about something. With the camera control on the iPhone 16 you can use the function even easier. Unfortunately, Visual Intelligence is not yet available in iOS 18.

Organize emails and notifications

The functions Priority Notifications and Priority Messages help you keep track of your Mail and Messages. And thanks to the function Smart Reply it becomes easier to compose quick answers. There is also the function Reduce Interruptionswhich helps when you would rather not be disturbed at all.

2. iPhone Sync Display

With the new feature iPhone synchronous display is possible to use your iPhone through your Mac, without it being unlocked. You can open any iPhone app directly from your Mac, even the audio from your iPhone‌ will be audible on your Mac. With this feature, you can easily move files between your iPhone and Mac, without the need for AirDrop.

3. Improvements to the Home app

Apple has announced a number of improvements for the Home app, such as the ability to add smart robot vacuum cleaners. This is a useful feature, because you can then ask Siri to clean the floor. Thanks to the support for the Home app, Siri automatically starts the robot vacuum cleaner. In addition, the energy consumption of your home becomes more transparent. The app shows how much energy you use per day and what the average is for a week, month, half or whole year. Unfortunately, this function is also not yet available in iOS 18.

Not available in iOS 18, maybe in iOS 18.1

As mentioned, it is still unclear when all these cool features will be added. That could be with the update to iOS 18.1, which will probably be released in October.
