Upgrade AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C charging case? Now it’s officially possible

If you have the first version of AirPods Pro 2, you can now upgrade them by purchasing a charging case with USB-C connection.

Upgrade AirPods with USB-C

Apple has started selling a USB-C charging case for the AirPods Pro 2 separately. In the United States, a separate AirPods Pro 2 case with USB-C costs $99, in the Netherlands you have to 109 euros for counting down. If you have the AirPods Pro 2, you can now upgrade them with a USB-C case without having to buy completely new AirPods. Apple itself says:

The MagSafe Charging Case (USB-C) for AirPods Pro (2nd generation) is equipped with the U1 chip with ‘Search nearby’ to help you quickly determine the location of the case. And if you’re nearby but can’t find it, you can play a sound through the built-in speaker. With a carrying strap you can attach the case to a backpack or handbag, so that it is always within reach. And the MagSafe Charging Case is made to withstand all weather conditions, with IP54 dust, sweat and water resistance.

Lossless audio only for new version AirPods Pro 2

When Apple announced the iPhone 15 with USB-C in September, a new version of the AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C charging case was also presented. At that time, the case was not yet available separately. Instead, anyone who wanted AirPods Pro 2 with a USB-C charging case had to buy a completely new pair for €249.95.

It should be noted that the new version of the AirPods Pro 2 released in September also includes an updated H2 chip capable of streaming lossless audio from the Vision Pro headset (when it becomes available early next year) . This feature remains exclusive to the latest version of AirPods Pro 2.

Not before Christmas anymore

Does the new AirPods Pro 2 USB-C charging case sound like the perfect Christmas present? Then we have to disappoint you. Although you can order a copy now, you will not receive it until January 3, 2024. Still a bit of a missed opportunity from Apple.
