Apple Music subscribers can share playlists and collaborate on playlists. Members can then add new music, change the order, and more. You can then react to each other’s music choices using emojis.
The emoji reactions are the ideal way to express your feelings about a song, so the others know immediately whether you like the song or not. The reactions are processed in a playful way in the system and work very well.
Shared Playlists in Apple Music
Apple Music introduces collaborative playlists that make it easier than ever to listen to music with friends. Since iOS 17.3, iPadOS 17.3, and macOS 14.3, you can easily share a playlist and edit it together.

This way, all participants can add music, change the order or remove songs. With emojis, you can then react to the music choices of the other. This makes listening to music even more fun. You can read how to collaborate on shared playlists in Apple Music in the highlighted article below.
Respond with emoji in Music
Members can react to an item in the playlist with an emoji. This way you can indicate that you like the added song (less). Follow the steps below to add an emoji reaction:
- Play a collaborative playlist.
- On an iPhone or iPad, tap the music player to open it
- If necessary, close the Next list and/or lyrics display
- Tap the emoji (next to the star icon or title) to add a comment
- Choose a default emoticon or use the plus button for all others

On a Mac, you can do this in a similar way. Play a song in the shared playlist and click the emoji icon at the top of the music player. Choose a standard emoticon or use the plus button for all others.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to add emoji reactions to a song on an Apple TV and Apple Watch.
View emoji reactions
When rating a song using an emoji, you will see an animation. Open the playlist to see other members’ reactions. Tap or click the emoticon to see who shared which emotion.

On a Mac you can also view the emoji reactions. You may have to make the window wider before you can see the emoticons. Unfortunately, on a Mac it is not clear who placed the emoji.
