Using filters with Google Photos

Easily add a nice filter (color effect) to photos stored at Google Photos. This can be done from the computer, but also with the smartphone.

Edit captured photos quickly and easily using filters. Convert pictures to black and white, give them brighter colors or a higher contrast. There are sliders to make the edits more subtle or go back to the original photo at the touch of a button.

Use the Photos filters in the smartphone and tablet app as follows:

  • Open the app photos.
  • Tap the photo you want to edit.
  • Tap “Edit” (the icon with three sliders) Google Photos, edit with filters.
  • Swipe at the bottom of the screen (at ‘Suggestions’) from right to left until ‘Filters’ is selected.

    Using Google Photos filters

  • Thumbnails appear below the photo, with the names of the filters below. They give an impression of the effect that the filter gives. Swipe from right to left on the filters to see more effects.
  • Tap one of the filters to apply the effect.
  • Feel free to try out the filters. You don’t need to delete or undo them to use another effect.
  • Want to see the changes from the original? Place your finger on the large photo until the original is visible. Remove your finger from the screen and the filter will reappear.
  • Is a filter nice, but a little too intense? Then tap the filter a second time. Swipe from left to right on the blue lines. Stop or move back a bit until the image looks the best. Tap on Finished.
  • Can’t save the changes? Tap on Cancel.
  • Tap on Save copy if you are satisfied.
