Using Gmail Settings

Gmail has two types of settings: quick and extended settings. What exactly is this?

Gmail’s settings (via the browser) are split into two parts: quick settings and all settings. Control frequently used options with the quick settings. For example, adjust the theme or position of the reading pane here. In the option ‘All settings’ you will find, as the name implies, all settings.

Change the density (number of messages that will fit in view), theme, inbox type, reading pane and conversation view via the quick settings:

  • Surf on your PC to gmail.
  • Click the ‘Settings’ icon at the top right. That’s a gear icon.
  • Open the quick settings. Adjust some basic options here.
    • Under ‘Density’, specify how close together the message lines should be. click on Default, Easy or Compact.
    • Under ‘Theme’, click an image. The photo will then become Gmail’s background.
    • Specify at ‘Inbox type’ how mails should be sorted in Gmail. For example, click Unread first to first see the mails you have not read yet.
    • Indicate at ‘Reading window’ where an open mail should be displayed: in the main window in the position of the message overview (‘No split’), ‘To the right of inbox’ or ‘Under inbox’.
    • Put a tick in front of Conversation View if you want to group mails with the same subject or sender in the mailbox.
  • Click on Reload
  • Surf on your PC to gmail.
  • Click the ‘Settings’ icon at the top right. That’s a gear icon.
  • click on View all settings.

The setting options are very extensive. View them at your leisure and change any settings you think are useful. You can change the following settings here, among other things:

  • Make buttons in Gmail clearer
  • Adjust Gmail Font Size
  • Revoke sent mail in Gmail
  • Don’t show images in Gmail
  • Disable Gmail Inbox Tabs
  • Signature in Gmail
