Instagram’s mobile website has received a welcome makeover. This is especially a godsend for iPad users.
Instagram iPad now lets you upload photos
Instagram has always had a mobile version of the app, which is useful, for example, if you want to log into your account on another phone. In that case, you don’t have to download the Instagram app first, just open the browser.

Today, the capabilities of this web version have been expanded with the function to upload photos directly to Instagram. Initially it was only possible to view your profile and timeline, without posting anything to your profile yourself. If you open your account today in Safari or another browser, upload a photo by tapping the photo icon. After that, a window similar to the one in Instagram’s iOS app will open.
Upload without Instagram app
The social network leaves on Techcrunch know that the new feature is primarily intended for people who live in an area with poor internet coverage. This way they can still share their photos without having to download and install an app first. In countries (such as the Netherlands and Belgium) where the reach is generally good and stable, it appears to be mainly an outcome for iPad users.
While a full-fledged Instagram iPad app would of course be even better, the improved web version is a welcome intermediate step. In the past, there were plenty of unofficial Instagram apps being developed for the iPad, but the company put a stop to that when extensions for these third-party apps were discontinued in 2016.
