All theoretical and practical driving license exams that expire in May or later this year are automatically extended by seven months.
According to Minister Cora van Nieuwenhuizen (Infrastructure), extending the validity of these exams should prevent that “a large number of people” who already have a theory certificate in their pocket, will soon have to take another theory exam because they currently do not have the required practical exam. can schedule. After all, the CBR has fallen behind dramatically as a result of the lockdown. As a result, an enormous number of exams could not take place, approximately 600,000 postponed theoretical and practical exams must be made up from March.
The new leniency scheme should offer people more clarity and perspective, said Van Nieuwenhuizen in a letter to the Lower House. The scheme also applies to professional drivers who have taken the exams for the so-called compulsory code 95. Passed (partial) exams for the inland navigation course also remain valid for seven months longer.
The validity of already issued driving licenses has already been extended. Driving licenses that expire between December 1, 2020 and March 1, 2021 will remain valid until March 1. Normally, a driving license – depending on the category – must be renewed after five or ten years. The longer validity is primarily intended to prevent people who need a re-exam for an extension to run into problems.
Driving lessons and exams resumed
Earlier it was announced that driving lessons may be given again from 3 March. This is related to the relaxation of the corona measures for contact professions. Practical exams take a little longer, although that should probably be possible again a week later. Theory exams are a different story because of the classroom nature. It is not yet clear when these can take place again.
