VDL Nedcar will announce today who can leave soon

Today, almost 2,000 VDL Nedcar employees are being told that they will no longer have to come in any time soon. The dismissal notification is done per department, while production in the factory is at a standstill.

It is a tough day for many VDL Nedcar employees. Today it becomes clear that they will soon no longer have a job. Everyone must report to the car factory on Wednesday, where production is at a standstill today. Leave, scheduled days off or working from home are not valid reasons for being absent, according to VDL. Anyone who will soon be told that he or she will be dismissed can then discuss this with colleagues and managers in a familiar environment. VDL says it regrets the situation that has arisen and asks employees to show understanding for each other and support each other where necessary.

It had been known for some time that VDL would lay off almost 2,000 people, after the first round of layoffs in November. Then 1,500 people were told that there was no more work for them. The layoffs are necessary because BMW canceled the contract for the production of Minis in Born on March 1. No new manufacturer has been found that wants to have cars built in Born. After March 1, 474 employees will still be working at Nedcar, according to an internal statement from the company.
