Video: This is what Android 12 looks like on Samsung phones

Samsung gives us an inside look at One UI 4.0 with two official introductory videos. The new functions are discussed and all 21 features that are relevant in the Netherlands and Belgium, we have listed for you in this article.

Samsung OneUI 4.0

Android 12 is coming to phones worldwide, you could already see that in our extensive update overview. Samsung aims to roll out the new Android version and its improved One UI 4.0 software shell in the fourth quarter. The Samsung Galaxy S21, S21 Plus and S21 Ultra will be the first to work on the new software.

Although beta versions of One UI 4.0 have been available for some time in other countries, the manufacturer has officially presented the new software version during the Samsung Developer Conference. We were shown two introductory videos in which the important functions are highlighted. All improvements that are relevant for the Netherlands and Belgium can be found in the overview below. One UI 4.0: the main features

design
  • material you: the new Android 12 theme with dynamic colors based on your wallpaper is coming to One UI 4.0.
  • Color palette: you can manually select a pallet of suitable colors that you want to see in the entire interface.
  • Consistent colors: all icons are adapted to the dark mode and Samsung is more consistent in their use of color. Shades that were previously similar are now also exactly the same color.
  • Comfort improvements: One Ui 4.0 gets new sounds, a richer variety with haptic feedback and new animations. That improved haptic feedback is one of the improvements from Android 12.
Widgets
  • Widget Recommendations: in the widget picker, your samsung phones will recommend widgets.
  • Photo frame: jYou can put your favorite picture or a gallery of cute pictures as a picture frame on your screen.
Privacy
  • Privacy Features of Android 12: All of Google’s new privacy features will be included in One UI 4.0. It’s about these three privacy features and the ability to share your inexact location in apps.

Camera and gallery app
  • Zoom range: in the camera app you can now see the precise zoom range with a number.
  • Switch between photo and video: long press the shutter button to switch to video.
  • Share media: When you share photos or videos in the gallery app, you get a larger preview of exactly what you’re about to share.
  • Photo remaster: blurry photos can make you sharper in gallery app.
All kinds of functions
  • Picture-in-Picture Mode (PiP): you could already resize videos on your phone with PiP mode, but now you can also resize that window to your liking.
  • Media in quick settings: in the shared section of the quick settings you can easily switch audio source. For example, switch between a bluetooth speaker and earphones.
  • Improved drag & drop: When you drag text or a file from one window to another in split-screen mode, the background is transparent. This way you can clearly see where you are dragging something.
  • Additional dim screen: if you use your phone at night there is an ‘extra dim screen’ mode. Your screen will then provide a minimum amount of light.

emoji
  • AR Emoji as Profile: you can now set AR Emoji as a profile picture in contacts.
  • Emoji in Samsung keyboard: your gifs, stickers and emojis are bundled behind a single button on the samsung keyboard.
  • Emoji Pairs: Samsung follows Gboard, because you can now combine two emoji in the keyboard.
wearables
  • Body composition: You can now measure your body composition with the Galaxy Watch 4 and the results will automatically appear in Samsung Health on your phone. You can see the distribution between muscles, your skeleton, fat and so on.
  • Google Maps; if you navigate with Maps on your phone, you will also see route guidance on the Galaxy Watch 4.
  • Samsung Health gets social: you can now use Samsung Health with your friends and participate in challenges.

When will my Samsung phone get One Ui 4.0?

Samsung will roll out the stable version of One UI 4.0 to the Samsung Galaxy S21 series in the fourth quarter. Only then can we expect updates for all other devices, starting with the foldable phones. This will mainly happen in the course of 2022.
