Vietnamese Vinfast shows new models

Three years after the Vietnamese Vinfast was founded, the brand presents three new models. The well-known Lux A2.0 and Lux SA2.0 are joined by the VF31, VF32 and – you guessed it – the VF33.

In 2018, the then very young Vietnamese car brand Vinfast presented its first two models: the Lux A2.0 and Lux AS2.0. This somewhat cumbersome pair shared not only their technology, but also large parts of a body with the BMW 5-series and X5 of the previous generation. Shortly after the market introduction of the Lux A2.0 and AS2.00, the Fadil first sniffed out the light of day, an Opel Karl that Vinfast had poured his sauce on. The three firstborn of Vinfast is only available with petrol engines, but the brand will soon also have a set of electric cars in its range. According to Vinfast, all three newcomers are crammed with software and hardware to make autonomous driving (levels 2 to 3) possible.

VF31

From May this year, the Vietnamese consumer can order the VF31, a fully electric SUV-like that, according to Vinfast, is a downright C-segmenter. The newcomer, christened VF31, will only be available as an EV and will receive a 116 hp and 190 Nm strong electric motor on the front axle. The 4.3 meter long crossover has a 42 kWh battery pack in its bottom, good for a range of 300 kilometers. The wheelbase of the car is 2.61 meters.

VF32

As mentioned, the VF31 is not the only new model from Vinfast. The brand will open the order books for the VF32 and VF33 for the Vietnamese consumer in September this year. The VF32 is what Vinfast describes as an SUV for the D segment. The car is 4.75 meters long and has a 2.95 meter long wheelbase. In terms of size, this falls in between cars like the X3 and X5 from BMW. The VF31 will be available in not one, but two electric flavors. The top version has two 409 hp and 640 Nm strong electric motors, while the less powerful version has a 204 hp and 320 Nm powerful electric motor. The battery pack is in all cases 90 kWh, good for a range of at least 504 kilometers. The VF32 also gets a regular petrol version with a 189 hp and 280 Nm strong 2.0 four-cylinder. This machine may have come from BMW. For those who follow Techzle closely, the appearance of the VF31 is no huge surprise. Mid-last year, Techzle exclusively published an extensive series of patent plates on which the newcomer could already be seen extensively. At the time, we already suspected that we were dealing with an electric model and those suspicions are confirmed today.

VF33

The VF33 is the 5.12 meter long big brother of the VF32, a true BMW X5 competitor. The VF33, which has a wheelbase of 3.15 meters, will be available as an EV, just like the VF32. The electric VF33 is always 409 hp and 640 Nm strong and thus has the same powertrain as the most powerful version of the VF32. At 106 kWh, the battery pack of the electric VF33 is a bit larger than that of the VF32. Vinfast’s largest SUV squeezes at least 550 kilometers of range from its electric lung capacity. This SUV will also be available with a petrol engine, as Vinfast also puts a 228 hp and 350 Nm strong 2.0 on the order list.

Europe

Although Vinfast initially presented itself as a brand that would only be active in the home market, the brand now says it has the global automotive market in its sights. The brand talks about coming to Europe, the United States and Canada, among other things. All three models should also be available in Europe by November 2021. It remains to be seen how Vinfast’s plans for the future exactly get their hands and feet.
