VinFast VF3 is new budget EV ‘for the masses’

VinFast shows a brand new electric model: the VF3. The compact adventurer should make electric driving more accessible for many, although there is still a very important caveat for the time being.

We are waiting for more compact and, above all, more affordable electric cars, such as the Dacia Spring. The Vietnamese VinFast may soon also have something to gain in that area, with this VF3. A particularly small EV with a cool jacket. It is somewhat reminiscent of the Suzuki Jimny and the Chinese compact EV Baojun Yep.

The VinFast VF3 is only about 3.1 meters long, which puts it between the microcar-like Citroën Ami (2.41 meters) and the Dacia Spring (3.73 meters). Like the Ami (and its relatives from Opel and Fiat), the VF3 has only two doors, but it is a five-seater. VinFast emphasizes that it is a car that should make entire families mobile, with which you can count on performance that comes closer to the Dacia Spring than to that of the Ami/Rocks/Topolino. The company does not report what the small EV has to offer, but it speaks of ‘an impressive driving range’. That’s promising, you might say.

The VinFast VF3 is also, according to the Vietnamese, “priced to reach the masses” and would have the potential to “become the new national car of Vietnam.” Yes, you read that right, for now the VinFast VF3 is only intended for the local market. Nevertheless, we will of course keep an eye on it in the near future if more is known about it. Who knows, the manufacturer will change its mind and there will be opportunities for the VF3 here in Europe.
