Volkswagen has a completely new generation of the Amarok in the development rooms, of which it has already shown design sketches several times. The unveiling of the second Amarok is not long in coming, but before that we can show you the new pickup on a brand new set of spy photos.
Ford pulled the curtain on the completely new Ranger at the end of last year, which means for the first time that the new Amarok will also make its debut soon. That may not sound logical, previously the Ranger and Amarok had nothing to do with each other. However, the new Amarok will be a technical brother of the Ranger and that means that Ford has taken the lead in the development of the model. The outgoing generation Amarok is in need of replacement in terms of age, with birth year 2010, the pickup blows out 12 candles on its birthday cake this year. The new Amarok largely comes from Ford. Volkswagen and Ford entered into an extensive partnership in the field of commercial vehicles a few years ago. The interaction between the two brands also works the other way. Although the new Ford Tourneo Connect is also a Volkswagen (Caddy), Ford is responsible for the development of the new larger delivery vans. This means that the new Transit will serve as the basis for Volkswagen’s new Transporter.

Back to the Amarok, that is after all the car that is hiding under the camouflage material in these photos. Based on these spy photos, there is little to tell about the appearance of the new pick-up, although we already know quite well how the pick-up is designed thanks to several design sketches released by Volkswagen. The Amarok seems to be more than just a Ranger with Volkswagen logos. Volkswagen gives the car its own unique look by supplying things such as headlights and grille itself. At the rear, the Amarok will deviate less from the Ranger, although entries in pick-up country often show strong similarities with each other. In any case, the Amarok also gets its own taillights.

It remains to be seen whether the engine palette of the Amarok and Ranger will match. Volkswagen spoke earlier in any case about the arrival of various TDI engines, although these could also be the Ford machines. The superlative of the Ranger was recently presented: the Raptor. Volkswagen recently let slip that it is considering an R version of the Amarok, which may mean that the Amarok will also get a sporty top version with a 289 hp 3.0 V6 petrol engine with two turbos.
We expect that Volkswagen will draw the curtain on the new Amarok later this year. The Ranger will come to the Netherlands at the end of this year, but only as a Raptor. The more conventional motorized versions will follow later.
