Volkswagen has the R-taste. It seems that the Arteon will also be available in extra powerful R-trim!
Volkswagen seems to have found something of the playfulness that it had suffered a few model generations. The T-Roc not only supplies the Cabriolet, but also a 300 hp R variant. The new Golf will eventually be endowed with a thick 300 hp R variant and Volkswagen also has some things in store for the Arteon. The brand will soon add a real Arteon ‘Shooting Brake’ to its delivery range, but the stock is not finished yet. It seems that the Arteon is also introduced to a full-fledged R version!
The Nürburgring has a Arteon covered with subtle camouflage work, which looks a lot like an R variant. The five-door is not only quite close to the asphalt, but it is also on heavy alloy which clearly hides special brakes, complete with blue claws. At the bottom of the rear of the Arteon with sporty-looking bumper and spoiler work, we even observe two chutes on both sides. Things like the stickered lighting on the back may indicate that Volkswagen is coinciding the arrival of the Arteon R with the introduction of the facelifted Arteon. After all, the car dates from 2017, it could just be that Volkswagen will present a subtly modernized variant later this year. The launch of the Arteon ‘Shooting Brake’ is likely to take place at the same time.
Possibly the Arteon R gets the same power source as the stacked Golf R under the hood, probably a 2.0 TSI that could easily go to 330 hp in the Arteon. In any case, count on 4Motion all-wheel drive. Currently, the Arteon is only available in the Netherlands with two engines: a 190 hp 2.0 TSI and a 2.0 TDI with comparable power. Until last year, the Volkswagen was also available with a 272 hp 2.0 TSI, a modified version of the 2.0 that had produced 280 hp a year earlier.
