Volkswagen ID.4: price regular versions

After the introduction of the 1st introductory versions, the range of the Volkswagen ID4 is supplemented with five regular versions. The starting price will go down, but the difference is still marginal.

As with the smaller ID3, Volkswagen keeps the price list of the ID4 fairly clear. Until now, putting together a Volkswagen has been a complete day job with numerous price-increasing options and packages, the ID4 is available in five versions. Those versions are largely ‘finished’, there are hardly any separate options.

The versions are called Life, Business, Family Tech and Max. Entry-level version Life costs € 47,290, although slightly less than the regular 1st version, but it only saves 50 euros. In terms of equipment, the two resemble each other like two drops of water. The 1st actually distinguishes itself mainly on its appearance and gets 20-inch light metal, silver-colored accents and – we don’t need it – privacy glass. The Life instead does it with 19-inch alloy wheels and black accents. Moreover, the body is standard in one color, although a black roof is also available here.

Ten instead of thirty colors

The Life will be equipped with a multimedia system with navigation and a 10-inch touchscreen, climate control with two zones, adaptive cruise control and steering and seat heating. There seems to be little to complain about, but there are still differences. For example, the Life is the only version besides the entry-level 1st that has to do without the extensive, adaptive LED lighting with a continuous LED bar at the front and 3D effect at the rear. It is also the only version that does not have a rear view camera, keyless access (automatic unlocking and starting) and no rear center armrest. Moreover, the mood lighting here is adjustable in only ten colors, while the other versions offer a choice of thirty colors.

Well, the latter may not be that important, but there are clearly differences. The Business (€ 51,240) does have all the items mentioned and also gets nicer seat upholstery with parts in artificial leather. The Family (€ 52,440) adds a panoramic roof (cannot be opened), an extra zone for the climate control, soundproof side windows and a variable luggage compartment.

The Tech version (€ 55,640) lives up to its name and adds more autonomous driving functions, a 360-degree camera and an electric tailgate. As a nice bonus, you get electrically adjustable and better-seated massage seats in the front and the larger, 12-inch touchscreen on the dashboard.

Few options

Top version Max, at € 60,240, is considerably more expensive than the 1ST Max, which is or was yours for € 56,940. For that amount you get even nicer seats, a sports package with ‘Dynamic Chassis Control’ and progressive power steering. In addition, the heat pump is standard with the Max. With the other versions, this range-increasing feature is one of the few separate options, with a price of € 1,258. Other options include a towbar (€ 868, 1,000 kg) and an ‘Exterior Style Package’, which provides the car with the two-tone body and silver accents for € 630. Speaking of the exterior: ‘Scale Silver’ and ‘Moonstone Gray’ (photos above) are the ‘colors’ that are available on the regular versions, but not on the 1st. They come in addition to the yellow, blue, dark gray and white that we already knew.

As with the 1st editions, the powertrain is still fixed. For the time being, each ID4 will receive the 204 hp electric motor and a 77 kWh battery pack, good for a theoretical range of over 500 km. In the future, the choice in the ID4 area will be expanded with at least five battery / motor combinations. The final basic version will be the City with a battery pack of 52 kWh and a range of 340 km. This variant will be included in the range at the beginning of 2021. The top version has also been announced: a four-wheel drive, twin-engine variant with a higher towing weight and over 300 hp.

The bigger ID4 goes through the same introduction process as little brother ID3. There too it started with 1st versions, albeit in three instead of two flavors. Regular versions followed later. The ID3 has already been spotted in the Netherlands in regular trim, with the ID4 that will probably take until next year.
