Volkswagen ID6 from all angles

Volkswagen is expanding its electric ID family with a range of models, including the ID5 and ID6. The ID5 will be the sportier brother of the already well-known ID4, the ID6 the more spacious alternative with seven seats. Thanks to Chinese media, the electric Volkswagen ID6 can already be admired from various angles. Without camouflage.

In September and December last year, a new electric SUV from Volkswagen, somewhat disguised as Peugeot 5008, was in the spotlight. It was the ID6, the youngest variant of the ID family that is one step above the ID4. The Peugeot camouflage was cleverly chosen by Volkswagen, because it saves us an explanation moment. You have to see the ID6 as what the Peugeot 5008 is to the 3008. A longer and therefore more spacious variant. Chinese media today publish a first series of photos.

The Volkswagen ID6 is of course on the modular MEB platform known from the ID3 and ID4, although the basis for the ID6 has been stretched a bit. The ID6 measures 4.88 meters, which means it is just under a foot longer than the 4.59 meter long ID4. The wheelbase of the ID6 is 2.97 meters, which means that there is an extra 20 centimeters between the front and rear axles compared to the ID4. Incidentally, do not expect that the appearance of the ID6 in Europe will be completely identical to that of this variant leaked in China. We have the pictures of the ID6 X before us, the ID6 to be built by the SAIC-Volkswagen joint venture. SAIC-Volkswagen also produces the ID4 X in China, an ID4 with a different front and a modified rear. Volkswagen’s other Chinese joint venture, FAW-Volkswagen, sells the ‘European’ ID4 in China as ID4 Crozz. This ID6 X will probably also get a variant with a European muzzle.

The ID6 is actually the production version of the ID. Roomz Concept that Volkswagen presented in 2019. There are no technical specifications yet, but aim for it to be available in many flavors. Count on cars with a 55 kWh, 62 kWh and 77 kWh battery pack and on electric motors with outputs of 180 hp, 204 hp, 265 hp and 306 hp.

The unveiling of the European Volkswagen ID6 is scheduled for later this year.
