Volkswagen shows ID6

Volkswagen pulls the curtain off the electric ID6 just before the Shanghai Motor Show opens its gates. The brand has already released a teaser plate on which the silhouette of the larger brother of the ID4 can be seen.

The Volkswagen ID3 and ID4 are currently the only electric ID models from Volkswagen, but will not remain so for long. The ID4 gets at least two more high-legged variations next to it. One of these is the sportier ID5 on paper, complete with more sloping roofline. The other is the larger and therefore longer ID6. The Chinese branch of Volkswagen has already released a teaser plate of the ID6.

The silhouette of the electric Volkswagen ID6 can already be seen in the dark design sketch. Volkswagen has two joint ventures in China, each of which will produce its own version of the ID6. Indeed, as is the case with the ID4. FAW-Volkswagen produces the European ID4 in China as ID4 Crozz and the SAIC-Volkswagen partnership sells in China the version that differs from both the front and the rear as ID 4 X. Thus, the ID6 also gets two versions: the ID6 X and the ID6 Crozz. The design sketch of the ID6 that has now been released comes from SAIC-Volkswagen and that seems to mean that we see the ID6 X here.

To be fair, it is no longer a surprise what the two Chinese ID6s will look like. We already extracted photos of the ID6 X and ID6 Crozz from the database of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Transport. If we follow the SAIC and FAW logic, we can conclude that the Chinese ID6 Crozz most closely resembles the version of the Volkswagen ID6 to be released later in Europe. However, take that with a solid grain of salt, as few things are as inscrutable in the car world as the Chinese model ranges.

Leaked: Volkswagen ID6

Volkswagen ID6 X

The ID6 Crozz will be 4.89 meters long, 1.84 meters wide and 1.68 meters high. The wheelbase of the electric SUV to be built by SAIC-Volkswagen is 2.97 meters. The ID6 X to be built by FAW-Volkswagen naturally has the same wheelbase, but is about two centimeters shorter all around due to slightly different bumper work. Count on versions with a 55 kWh, 62 kWh and 77 kWh battery pack and electric motors with outputs of 180 hp, 204 hp, 265 hp and 306 hp.

Now the question: which version of the ID6 do you prefer to see in the Netherlands? The ID6 Crozz, or the ID6 X? Let us know in the comments.
