The unveiling of the new Volkswagen Tiguan is now really near. Volkswagen will make its audience happy with a colorful teaser plate, which especially shows the nose well.
That is great, because it is that nose where the biggest news is likely to be found. Volkswagen calls the facelift “a major technical and visual update” and it seems that this facelift is indeed one of the more robust type. As has been seen in previous spy footage, the car has a nose similar to that of the Passat and the T-Roc. This means that the Tiguan nose (photo 2), which is built up almost entirely from straight, horizontal lines, is transformed into an example in which the headlights are considerably flatter than the grille, so that they will still form one optical whole. At the same time, the front bumper is also modified, with straight lines making way here and there for smoother shapes.
At the same time with the new nose, the Tiguan also gets a new plug-in hybrid powertrain. It can go in several directions. To begin with, Volkswagen offers two such powertrains in the new Golf. It remains to be seen whether the Tiguan will get the 204 hp, which will get 245 hp or both. In the Passat GTE and Skoda Superb iV, a similar powertrain also delivers 218 hp, so that is another option. In all cases, a 1.4 TSI, a six-speed DSG and a 13 kWh battery pack end up in the car.
The brand new Volkswagen Tiguan will be presented later this year and will appear four years after the unveiling of the second generation of Volkswagen’s most popular model. Wait, Volkswagens most popular? Yes, in 2019 this SUV surpassed all other models of the brand and the Volkswagen group, with a total of 910,926 units sold. This makes the car one of the three most popular SUVs in the world and the most popular SUV in Europe. Volkswagen proudly reports that the car is on the menu in 80 percent of the countries in the world.
