Volkswagen will soon start with the pre-sale of the plug-in hybrid Tiguan. The eHybrid is part of the range of the updated SUV.

In Germany, the pre-sale of the Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid begins. The Netherlands is expected to follow soon, so that we can also drive the plug-in hybrid version of the renewed SUV here in early 2021. The Tiguan eHybrid can drive fully electrically up to 50 km (according to the WLTP test results), the maximum speed is 130 km / h.

The fuel engine in the hybrid powertrain is a 1.4 liter TSI petrol power source. Together with the electric motor, a maximum system power of 245 hp is achieved, the torque is up to 400 Nm. The lithium-ion battery pack is located in the bottom of the car. Charging can be done at a regular socket or at a public or home charging point, using only AC power.

Starting is usually done in EV mode. GTE mode, in which electric and fuel engine work together, can be set manually by the driver. In Hybrid mode, the electric motor supports the TSI with an extra boost. The drivetrain therefore recovers braking energy to charge the battery.

Other innovations

The 2021 model year Tiguan has more innovations. For example, the latest, third-generation infotainment modular (‘MIB3’) is available with online connectivity and new services. The new steering wheel has touch buttons and the climate control can also be operated by touch. On the nose you see new LED matrix headlights and the grille that will be worn by all Volkswagen SUVs. Finally, VW has made the turbo diesel engines cleaner.
